The Greener Side of Lawn Care
Seasonal Lawn Tips
- Never remove more than 1/3 of the grass blade.
- First mowing of the season should be 2 ½ - 3 inches. Then raise your mower to the highest setting. Avoid bagging the grass clippings throughout the season. Leaving the clippings will provide nutrients back into the soil and keep grass greener between treatments.
- Be sure to keep your mower blade sharp. This is very important. (Sharpen blade approximately 3 times a year.)
- Grass clippings do not contribute to the thatch build up.
- Dull mower blades fray the grass ends, allowing an open door for fungus.
- Scalping the lawn. Mowing to short can cause injury to the lawn. It will weaken the root system. Also, it will rob the lawn of color and allow sunlight in on soil more. This allows for more weeds to germinate in your lawn. Scalping also can rob the carbohydrate storage and the plant will to work harder to rebuild this storage back up.
- Remember mowing correctly is very important.
- Don't be tempted to mow short during rapid growth.
- Mowing correctly plays an important role in your lawns appearance.
- Spring is not the best time to seed. We recommend seeding in the fall time.
